I. Why This Forum Came About...
I started Abrahadabra.com several years ago with the idea in mind of using it to publish what I was calling an "Alchemical Manifesto"...an original treatise on Abrahadabra and its properties that focuses on two main areas, it's own hidden geometry and a methodology I call "mutational alchemy" based upon the mathematics of the I Ching and related systems from antiquity which have suddenly come to the forefront of attention in certain elite circles owing to the emergence of genetic science etc.
I am primarily a pretty good research person with a certain aptitude for sacred geometry, and a reasonably good graphic artist. I have never really considered myself to be an especially good writer, so the writing aspect of things has been a real nemesis for me. I have over 30 years of time into this immediate thesis, both analytically and tantrically, so it can be difficult to extract myself from all of that and attempt to lay everything out in a logical beginning-to-middle-to-end sort of fashion. This whole subject matter is huge and I get new insights all the time so it's not like the clock ever stops ticking on this thing...far from it.
I've spent a fair amount of time on other forums (mostly occult philosophy and related) and in doing this found that I was having a lot more success discussing various principles with people first hand, rather than hiding behind some massive academic tome and allowing it to speak for me. I really am a lot better at spontaneous speaking/writing and I have a major aversion to having to pretend to know more than I do. There are some things I do know very well and there are others I simply don't. Like most people, there are yet a few things I think I know that in fact I don't. What I really like about the whole forum venue is that it allows you to speak naturally to others and in some cases ammend your own points of view on-the-fly, depending upon what others might have to say. It's a great format for research writers/thinkers in general since you can test out your ideas on other thinking individuals without having to commit to anything in any grandiose sort of way. You haven't "published" in such a way that you will now have to spend the rest of your life defending some idea you had which has already come and gone.
So that's just a little background noise to set the stage here. On a personal level, this forum will allow me to continue publishing my "manifesto" in a fairly interactive sort of way and also allow others to ask questions about one thing or another if that is something they want or need to do. It will make it possible for me to speak to a very broad community on a wide range of issues without having to contend with conventional publication, which I have absolutely no interest in pursuing. If the publishing world has lost a potentially exciting author because of this, then good. They deserve all the hits they might get for their cowardice, their pettiness and their insatiable greed in my opinion. A lot of talented people will be turning to this sort of format in the future I am sure. I will also be able to focus more on the production of graphic images, which really is my first love anyway, and address whatever questions people might have regarding these in real time.
II. Hermetic Philosophy and You
Mutational Alchemy is a specialized branch of Hermetic Alchemy, or it soon will be, since in the final analysis I have played my cards right on all of this and there is simply no denying its rightful place in the scheme of things once all the facts are in. Hermetic Philosophy itself is a little hard to pin down but it has been an almalgamate philosophy and movement more or less coinciding western occultism with roots stretching back to ancient Greece (Hermes) and Egypt (Thoth) in particular. There are certain indications that this philosophy may extend all the way to Sumer, typically called the "seat of civilization" itself, since both the iconography of Hermes and alchemical tradition in general can be traced to Ningishzidda, who was purportedly a genetic alchemist among the Sumerian gods responsible for creating the human race via genetic engineering etc... many people believe that Ningishzidda, Thoth and Hermes are all the same essential character viewed from different points of view. At the time of this writing, there is a pretty good definition via the Wikipedia on Hermeticism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermeticism), worth checking out.
Hermeticism is not and never has been a static philosophy but is extremely flexible and very well suited to the Information Age in general. People interested in magickal ideas who may not be especially keen on its more ritualistic aspects may find Hermeticism much more to their liking, once they realize that this option actually exists. It tends to revolve a great deal more around principles and methodologies than any certain ideologies of any kind. It is an experimental sort of philosophy that hyphenates personal responsibility and direct personal action over faith and all those kinds of observances that faith may typically require. While it has been occasionally identified as a "religion", the arguments for this are not especially compelling and nowhere do we find the kinds of historical footprints typically left by bona fide religions...no great Hermetic campaigns that we know of, no Hermetic wars of any kind, no celestialized Hermetic kingdoms looming in the ahead and so on. It appears to have been a persistent, but soft-spoken undercurrent philosophy that has contented itself with impacting current events through the steady advance of knowledge itself.
III. Where We Are At & Where We Are Going
Hermetic Philosophy is not only committed to diversity, it is altogether dependant upon it. It astonishes me that more people are not more aware of it but I have set my task to rectifying that problem as well as I can. Abrahadabra.com and the Abrahadabra Forums are aimed straight at community awareness and community interaction in as many ways as I can manage to devise. What you see here right now is absolutely nothing compared to where it will be going in the months and years ahead. I plan to make this site a shining example of what every metaphysical website should aspire to be. I will be focusing hard on quality content and site useability issues and attempting to come up with many features and "elements" that serve to connect people to their world in an enhanced sort of way. At the same time this is going to be every bit as much an esoteric art site as it is an information resource and we hope to have galleries and stores and libraries and event calendars and as many things as we can discover that will service this community as well as any community can be served.
While it is certainly true that I have a personal agenda going on here in terms of launching the aforementioned "alchemical manifesto", it is also true that I am not stupid and I know perfectly well that there are a great many people out there with many valuable things going on in their heads. I am just curious enough and just selfish enough to want to know exactly what that is because it has always been my feeling that none of us can really achieve very much personal progress in a state of abject isolation and/or ignorance of one another. We simply need to start talking to each other and comparing notes and all the rest for any of us to really benefit from those beliefs and ideas we may happen to cherish the most. So while this site is rooted in Hermetic Philosophy and has Abrahadabra as its "governing dynamic" so to speak, it is simply not the case that this site is all about convincing anybody to think as I think or do as I do. I want to hear from everybody about everything and that's the truth.
I have a reputation for being a fairly intimidating poster in some ways. I express my opinions and I do it with a vengeance but you would be making a huge mistake to glean from this that I do not also pay close attention to those whose writing styles may not be quite so gregarious as my own. It simply isn't true. I need people to feel comfortable here and if I wind up having to shut the hell up to achieve it I will, or perhaps confine myself to certain areas only etc. This is my website...there's no denying that...but this website is not and never has been about me personally. I can only encourage people to take this platform and run like hell with it and I will do the best I can to support and defend that in every way I can.
IV. A Few Acknowledgments
This project would not really be possible without the key assistance of a couple of friends whom I wish to thank publicly at this time. First is someone who prefers to identify himself simply as a member who is in fact our Technical Director and more...but I will say no more than this as I do not wish to blow his cover. Thanks Zonaxx...we all know we couldn't be doing this without you. Second is my co-administrator Ðanisty who has brought her considerable talents as well as her own people from her former forum Cabal Lux Ferre to merge with this website in the hopes that a broader based forum will ultimately benefit us all the more. She has taken a huge chance in doing this and I want to thank her and extend a heart-felt welcome to her people, many of whom I already know and have great respect for as people and as posters. We will be doing a lot of work over the weeks and months ahead to try to make this the most exciting forum on the internet. I have every confidence that this will happen and this confidence is not rooted in any kind of wishful thinking. I know exactly what kind of content we have here already and a very precise sense of the potential, which is staggering. Finally, I want to thank everybody who comes into these forums with the intention of making a positive contribution to the group as a whole. I have been a prolific poster for several years at other forums and I know for a certainty that no matter how well organized it may be, the bottom line always boils down to the community itself and its regard for one another. Whoever you may be, whether we know you yet or not, thank you for investing your time and energy with us all here at Abrahadabra Forums.
